Squaw Valley...8700'...I can see about 60-70% of the surface of Lake Tahoe in the distance, backdropped by snow covered mountains..I ponder the Blue/Black dropoff in front of me and wonder how much it will hurt if I catch an edge on the way down...It's quiet except for the wind and the sound of the lift chair...Blue skies reflect on the lake...stayed up late the night before reading in the van, parked in the Squaw Valley parking lot.....Breakfast of cinnamon roll and Peet's coffee....Tommorow off to Northstar, supposed to have nice long intermediate runs....hoping my knees hold up....then a quick trip back to San Francisco to attend my only Christmas party of the year...followed by a week in Oregon; Mt Bachelor, Mt Hood...My mind clears, over the precipice I go...quick turns to bleed off speed...I do catch an edge....Sky, Ground, Sky, Ground pass before my eyes...I land almost upright (after the bounce) and pop up....the worst possibility realized, I shrug off last shreds of doubt and point my board straight for the bottom................  :-0     :-)     :-0    :-)     :-0      :-)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
